cheonma san

it's been snowing for the past 3 or 4 days and cheonma san (i can see from home and school) has been calling me. so today i hiked to the top. it was amazing, a winter wonder land. about 3/4 of the way up all the tree branches were covered in a thick frost. and from the top i could see everything. it took around 4 hours to go from my house to the top of the mountian and back to my house again.

English camp

My first week of camp is over, it wasnt all that bad. These are the kids who showed up the last day, most of them were here every day. We had some fun; i read to them, we played some games, we drew pictures and comics, we learned a new song (ruby tuesday), tasted food and watched movies. You really cant learn much in a week, so my goal was to get them more interested in English, so they might learn more on their own. This was grade 6, next week ill have grade 5.

we got snow

I woke up this morning a little nervous about my first day of english camp. im teaching english camp for the next two weeks, this week ill have 20 6th graders, next week 20 5th graders. teaching during the normal school year we stick close to the textbook, but for camp i had to write my own curriculum and plan for 4 periods a day for five weeks. anyway because of the frosted windows in my apartment i didnt even know it was snowing till i walked out to catch the bus. we got record snowfall, somewhere around 10 inches. it was crazy, i waited for around an hour and a half for the bus, in that time i saw only 2 buses and they were completely packed (literally). when i finally got on the bus it took about a half hour to get to school, and its only 4 stops away. my coteachers normal busride is about 20 min, today it took her 4 hours. i would have walked, but i have to cross through a tunnel to get to school and theres no footpath. there are not many plows. after school the roads were still not plowed, and they were littered with abandoned cars and trucks. there must have been 20 or so on the hill going to the tunnel. i still had camp and it went well, 15 students made it in.
also i didnt take the photo, i nabed it of the net, but it shows the lack of snow removal equipment (most places people are sweeping the snow).
